PMPDblog is now Reveille Records!

RRlogo

Hey all! We haven’t posted in a long while, but it’s for good reason. We’ve decided to move away from blogging about punk/hardcore/pop punk bands and instead focus on actually releasing music by them! The record label is called Reveille Records and we are just days away from revealing our very first signing (a promising melodic hardcore act for fans of Title Fight, Such Gold, and The Story So Far).

All of us at RR would love it if you guys would all come over to our new Tumblr in time for our big announcement in the next week or so. We also have a Facebook and Twitter where you can keep up to date on everything we have planned for 2012!

You’ve all been so supportive of the blog these past couple of years and we seriously would love it if you gave Reveille Records just as much affection.

Interview: Life On Repeat

Just a few years ago Life On Repeat was carving out a name for themselves on the east coast by self-booking shows in legion halls and churches in a humdrum town deprived of any sort of music scene. After signing to Equal Vision Records and releasing an EP the band has been able to take what they started in Salisbury, Maryland to the masses. Summer 2011 not only brings the sunshine and tan lines it also ushers in Life On Repeat’s most ambitious endeavor to date, the full length Struggle + Sleep released on June 14th. Below we have an interview with guitarist Andrew Baylis.

It’s quite a shame that the whole rhythm gaming market came to a crash when it did because Rock Band was just getting started on something very exciting for indie music makers when it took a nose dive. Rock Band Network is a platform where indie bands can chart their music via a computer application and submit their tracks for download (both paid and free) in game. RBN offers a variety of great punk rock, metal, and indie tunes that you may have never guessed would be featured in a video game. We’ve gone through the work and handpicked the Top 10 Punk Rock Band Network Tracks Worth Downloading!

Review: Oathbreaker - Maelstrom

Artist/Album: Oathbreaker - Maelstrom

Release date: July 5, 2011

Label: Deathwish Inc.

Belgium is a hotbed for pissed off metallic hardcore. Blame it on countless wars the country has endured that has earned it the nickname “the battleground of Europe” or the ongoing feuds between the Flemings and Francophones over the unequal economic development in the 20th century. It just goes to show you how much one is molded by their surroundings. Oathbreaker takes those years of inherited frustration and violently attacks anything that gets in its way ripping flesh from bone with its gnarly doom gloom guitars and electric Shipwreck-esque riffs that rip so hard you’ll have paper cuts lining your ear drums.

Another Shipwreck influence that is present is the ocean imagery found through the album. Maelstrom may just be the most aptly titled album all year, it is literally a whirlpool of destructive sounds. It is the soundtrack to oblivion.

But like every storm, many things need to fall in place for it to take root and thrive. One way Oathbreaker achieves this is by anchoring the music in hardcore while letting the vocals saunter through metal territory. The opening track “Origin” serves as an introduction of sounds throwing everything including the kitchen sink directly at your face with intent to kill. A cacophony of breakneck riffs, steely drum rolls, and putrid squeals lie within. “Fate Is Nigh” is buried somewhere in the middle between hardcore and metal with its galloping drum beats and pugnacious vocal delivery driven together by ominous guitars dripping with atmosphere. It’s in this middle ground where most of the record makes camp. The album is capped off with with the somber almost angelic, and definitely eerie “Maelstrom” which serves as an antithesis to the albums rip-roaring opener.

Deathwish certainly seems to be putting their weight behind metal this year. Not being one too into the real hard stuff, I can’t say that I I am jumping for joy over the majority of their releases this year, but sometimes you just have to let go and venture out into territory that you’re not that comfortable with because every now and then you’ll find something well worth the effort. Oathbreaker’s Maelstrom was that record for me this year.

Artist Spotlight: Vestiges (FFO: Trap Them / Deafheaven / The Hope Conspiracy)

Artist: Vestiges

Genre: Hardcore / Metal

For fans of: Trap Them / Deafheaven / The Hope Conspiracy

Why you should pay attention to them:

Sometimes music isn’t made, it’s born. Vestiges began as a single cell, a group of like minded members making music for no one other than themselves. The distorted guitars, galloping drum beats, and bloodcurdling screams served as an outlet to vent their frustrations with the problems plaguing the world around them. As time went by a more mature and focused beast had began to grow and evolve into something that was hungry for more. At this point the band knew that it was time, that they must unleash the beast they have given birth to. The end product was “The Dissent Of Man”, an epic that follows the evolution and dissent of man after taking nature for granted. Now Vestiges has no other choice but to move forward as one in support of its offspring.

We have an exclusive Q & A session with Vestiges below, check it out.

The Dreaded Question - “What type of Music do you listen to?”

“What type of music do you listen to?”

“Mostly punk music.” I say, wincing at the words as I know what’s about to follow. It’s either one of the following responses depending on the person’s age.

1.) “Oh cool, so you like [insert whichever band is popular at the moment and doesn’t sound entirely rock e.g. Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte, Blink-182]. Says the average radio listener.

2.) “Yeah, I used to listen to a lot of that crazy stuff too when I was younger.” Says the older gentleman, almost always referring to The Ramones.

3.) “Me too! I’m really into the new The Devil Wears Prada. Have you seen A Day To Remember live yet?” Says the girl who looks like she should get what I really mean.

4.) “You mean that dungeon music where you kids hang out in basements head banging all night” Says my Uncle Joe, who believe it or not is closer than anyone else in describing “punk” music.

So what do I really mean when I say I listen to punk music? Keep reading to find out.
